THE OPTICAL UNIVERSE / CHAPTER 01
Miguelito
A name from our history. A face in our world.
Before the symbol, a person.
Before Miguel Hidalgo became a name in history books, he was a priest in Dolores, Guanajuato. His days were connected to a community: people working, raising families, and trying to make a life with what they had.
He helped parishioners learn practical trades, from beekeeping to making pottery and bricks. That detail matters to us. It brings a monumental figure back down to earth. Caring about freedom can begin with caring about how the people around you live.
A voice that became a beginning.
On September 16, 1810, Hidalgo called people to rise against Spanish colonial rule in what became known as the Grito de Dolores. He helped set Mexico’s independence struggle in motion. He was captured and executed in 1811, before independence was achieved.
We can look back knowing what his name would come to mean. He could not. There is something deeply human in taking a step without knowing whether you will live to see where it leads.
Why he lives on as Miguelito.
Miguelito is Optical’s first luchador, inspired by Hidalgo’s place in that history. The mask belongs to our creative world; Hidalgo was not a wrestler. Through Miguelito, we bring the ideas of rebellion, pride, and freedom into a character you can meet.
For us, rebellion starts with questioning what you are told you have to be. Pride is carrying your roots into the life you are building. Freedom is having room to become yourself—and wanting that room for the people beside you.
The name Miguelito feels close enough to call out to. We want that closeness. Under the mask is a reminder that the people who change things are still people.
The mask carries the culture.
This collection is our way of keeping a conversation with where we come from. A story can travel through a name, an image, or something you choose to wear. Miguelito carries that story into the Optical universe, with creative love from Bakersfield.
The Miguelito collection is coming soon.
